The July 4th Parade Returns: With a fascinating, but not entirely settled, theme...

  • Madeline Island Yacht Club (Road in Front) 633 Fort Road La Pointe, WI, 54850 United States (map)

By Victoria Erhart, Spring 2025

Coming off of a well-deserved rest year, the MIWP is fully recharged and ready to get on with the serious business of parading. Exactly what form that business is going to take is a fascinating, but not entirely settled, question.

Of course I have no idea what we are going to do (yes, you have heard that before), but whatever it is, it is bound to be great: poignant, topical, a treat for the eyes and soul. And if you have any especially good ideas, you can’t imagine how delighted I would be to hear from you.

I always invite people to join us in these parades, and, other than the time we did a parody of Star Wars and half the island showed up looking like Darth Vader, we haven’t had very many takers. But walking in a parade is a ton of fun.

How often in our lives do we get to be the focus of attention of thousands of cheering people? To be dressed as a flamingo, a monarch butterfly, a carp, a vacationing deer tick? The ego boost alone is enough to sustain me for the next 11 months.

Meet at the marina under the MIWP banner 30 minutes prior to parade time (parade usually starts at 10:30 AM, but check with the Chamber of Commerce or a MIWP board member to be sure).

Children and leashed four-legged pets are very welcome.
