Read MoreThe morning of October 6 was a glorious day for a hike to the Lake Superior shore on the Burroughs Trail. After hiking to the lake we then hiked the inland trail. This hike was not as wet as the September hike, and we saw lots of beautiful mushrooms!
Read MoreAs these pictures show, the guided hike on Saturday, September 22nd on the newly groomed and marked north trails was a bit damp, but with waterproof boots (or not), was a lovely adventure. We spotted lots of fungi, and our guide Bonnie Matuseski had a wealth of interesting information to share about the fungi — and about other nature-related subjects as well! Very much worth a little mud!

Read MoreNorma and Bob Schaub were founding members of Madeline Island Wilderness Preserve. In 2017, Mark Allsup, son of Norma Schaub, donated the Island’s End Forest to the Preserve. Island’s End Forest is a 27+ acre parcel of interior forest land at the northeast tip of Madeline Island and adjacent to existing Preserve land.
The Madeline Island Wilderness Preserve is deeply grateful for this generous gift. Mark has furthered the Preserve’s goal to protect and preserve natural areas on Madeline Island for the enjoyment of all. Thank you, Mark!

Madeline Island is adjacent to the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore on the South Shore of Lake Superior in Wisconsin.
