As these pictures show, the guided hike on Saturday, September 22nd on the newly groomed and marked north trails was a bit damp, but with waterproof boots (or not), was a lovely adventure. We spotted lots of fungi, and our guide Bonnie Matuseski had a wealth of interesting information to share about the fungi — and about other nature-related subjects as well! Very much worth a little mud!

Read MoreWe currently have some of the best ski conditions we've seen in awhile on the island. The backyard trail is groomed and tracked and beautiful, but doesn't compare to the North End Trail. I was just out there to pack and track, and it is skiable and, barring a breakdown, will be groomed and tracked in nearly 20" of snow. Wanted to let mainland friends know, as it has been really rare in the past twenty years to have these great ski conditions and a beautiful ice road to boot!

Read MoreThere were twenty-seven people on the September 19 hike on the North End Trail. There were people from the Bayfield Regional Conservancy, as well as MIWP members, family and friends. It was a beautiful day and lots of fun!
Read MoreA pair of sandhill cranes were sighted at Big Bay Town Park. Walks on the Capser Trail on April 15th, and on the North End Trail on April 25th revealed signs of green everywhere, and buds bursting forth on bushes and trees!
